What to expect at the evaluation

Your Guide to Feeling Comfortable, Prepared, and Empowered at Reclamation

Starting something new can bring a mix of emotions—curiosity, hope, and sometimes a little bit of nervousness. At Reclamation, our goal is to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported from the moment you walk in. Whether you're coming in for pelvic floor physical therapy, Somatic Experiencing®, dry needling, or holistic bodywork, here’s what you can expect during your first session, including what to wear, how the session might unfold, and what the overall vibe is like.

What to Wear

We encourage you to wear comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement. Think joggers, leggings, or soft gym shorts paired with a t-shirt or tank top, and layers to stay comfortable with the climate.  If we’ll be doing any manual therapy or movement-based work, this allows for better access and assessment without compromising your comfort or modesty.

What to Bring

  • A water bottle

  • Intake paperwork, if not submitted online

  • Any questions or curiosities you’d like to explore

What is a typical first session like?

1. A Conversation First

We’ll begin by sitting down together. This is your space to share your story, your goals, and anything that’s brought you in. You don’t need to have all the right words or a clear understanding of what’s going on—this is a collaborative process.

We’ll explore your health history, current concerns, and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together. It’s also a time to talk about what feels safe for you, any boundaries you’d like to set, and what kind of care feels most supportive—whether that’s hands-on, movement-based, or centered around nervous system regulation.

2. Body-Based Assessment

Regardless of the package you choose, every first session includes an emphasis on assessing physical structures, movement patterns, and nervous system dynamics. This foundational assessment gives us insight into how your body is functioning as an integrated whole.

We’ll observe posture, strength, mobility, breath, and areas of tension or ease. We'll also track how your nervous system may be expressing itself—through things like muscle tone, breathing patterns, or changes in presence and energy.

3. Hands-On Treatment or Interventions

The direction we take next is guided by the package you've selected. A traditional physical therapy package might begin with more movement-based interventions, while a Somatic Experiencing® package may start with resourcing and interoceptive awareness.

If we move into hands-on work, this could include manual therapy, dry needling, nervous system-informed touch, or physical cueing to support movement shifts. In other sessions, we may use breathwork, imagery, or orientation to resources in your life.

Every part of the session is consent-driven, paced, and responsive to your body in the moment. You’ll never be rushed, and our aim is always to support what feels safe, empowering, and appropriate for where you are today.

After Your Session

You might leave feeling lighter, more aware, or even a little tired. That’s part of the process. Sometimes change happens quickly, and sometimes your system just needs time to settle. We’ll check in about next steps, which may include home practices, future session planning, or simply giving your body some space to integrate.

In Summary

Your first session at Reclamation is about building trust and laying the foundation for healing. You don’t need to show up any certain way—just as you are. We’ll meet you there with care, curiosity, and a deep respect for the wisdom your body already holds.

If you have specific concerns, needs, or preferences before your session, feel free to reach out—we’re here to make this experience as comfortable and supportive as possible.
